SANTA FE—Today, Senator Steven Neville (R-Aztec) announced he will not be seeking reelection to the Legislature in 2024. 

First elected in 2004, Senator Neville has served in several leadership roles including national chair of the Energy Council, ranking member on the Senate Education Committee, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, and Senate Republican Caucus Chair. 

“It is with deep gratitude to my community and the State of New Mexico that I announce my time in the Legislature is drawing to a close. I am eager to spend more time with my family and pass the torch to the next generation of leadership,” said Senator Neville.

Senator Neville passed several key pieces of legislation to improve the lives and well-being of San Juan County and the people of New Mexico. Regarding transparency, Senator Neville championed changes to the State Investment Council that ended “pay to play.” He also passed major legislation to restructure the Public Regulation Commission and create the Outdoor Recreation Division. This past year, Senator Neville sponsored legislation to create the Land of Enchantment Legacy Fund with a $300 million endowment. Senator Neville also secured funding for numerous public works projects throughout the County.

“As I look ahead to the future, I am hopeful for the future of our state. After more than thirty years of public service, I have been privileged to lead in the areas of finance, conservation, small business, transparency, and education. In my final months as your State Senator, I pledge to continue to represent the people of San Juan County,” added Senator Neville.
