Mayor Richard Bauch of Santa Clara received an award On Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, in recognition of the Village of Santa Clara's efforts to preserve the history of the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Bayard.
The award was presented by the New Mexico Office of African-American Affairs, Deputy Director Nicole Byrd and Education Outreach Coordinator Beverly Jordan, for outstanding vision, dedication, and commitment shown in preserving the history of the Buffalo Soldiers and Fort Bayard.
The presentation was being made as part of the organization's activities during Black History Month.
