Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4, 2018, was a time for playing in the street, with Georgia Street cordoned off between 13th Street and Highway 180 so families could play games, do street art, dance, and enjoy pizza, hot dogs and watermelon. City Councilwoman Lynda Aiman Smith, one of the volunteers, said that 155 people attended and the street was full of kids running up and down with balloons flying.

Another volunteer, Otto Khera, said that he had been asking people if they wanted to have a Play Street Day in their neighborhoods. “Everyone said that it was a great idea, that they liked the feeling of connection to the community,” he said.

After the success of this day, expect more Play Street Days in the future of Silver City.
