Sarah Cyrus, 33, of the Silver City area, who escaped from the Behavioral Health Unit at Gila Regional Medical Center, was located by an off-duty Silver City police officer on Friday afternoon, Apr. 19, 2019 in Silver City’s Big Ditch. She was taken into custody by officers and returned to the BHU.

Previously, according to a police incident report, a Silver City police officer was dispatched to GRMC on Monday, Apr. 15, 2019, in reference to Cyrus escaping from the BHU. She had been admitted to the BHU on Mar. 27, 2019, and was there on a medical hold for a trial commitment the next day.

A nurse at GRMC advised that Cyrus was showering at 2:45 p.m., and when they heard the shower still running at 3:15 p.m. they checked, and Cyrus was gone. Hospital staff searched the hospital and grounds but could not locate her. The SCPD officer also went to Cyrus’ last known location under the 12thStreet Bridge near Santa Rita Street but had negative contact with her. Cyrus was then entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as an endangered missing person.
