NMAC Announces New Board of Directors for 2017-2019

Taos, New Mexico - The New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC) elected new leadership at its 81st Annual Conference in Taos County on Thursday evening June 22, 2017. The new leadership assumed their responsibilities at the conclusion of the NMAC Annual Conference along with the newly elected board members. Their first Board meeting will be hosted in Otero County on August 3rd and 4th.

The newly elected Board members of NMAC are Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover, Catron County Assessor Susan Griffin, Chaves County Clerk Dave Kunko, Cibola County Probate Judge Corrine Padilla, Colfax County Assessor Linda Gallegos, Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller, De Baca County Commissioner Becky Harris, Doña Ana County Sheriff Enrique Vigil, Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage, Grant County Commissioner Gabriel Ramos, Guadalupe County Commissioner Ernest Tapia, Harding County Assessor Phillip Trujillo, Hidalgo County Treasurer Tyler Massey, Lea County Commissioner Rebecca Long, Lincoln County Sheriff Robert Shepperd, Los Alamos County Councilor Pete Sheehey, Luna County Commissioner Linda Smrkovsky, McKinley County Commissioner Carol Bowman-Muskett, Mora County Commissioner Paula Garcia, Otero County Assessor Steven Boyle, Quay County Commissioner Mike Cherry, Rio Arriba County Clerk Linda Padilla, Roosevelt County Commissioner Dennis Lopez, San Juan County Assessor Jimmy Voita, San Miguel County Commissioner Janice Varela, Sandoval County Commissioner David Heil, Santa Fe County Clerk Geraldine Salazar, Sierra County Sheriff Glenn Hamilton, Socorro County Commissioner Manuel Anaya, Taos County Commissioner Gabriel J. Romero, Torrance County Assessor Betty Cabber, Union County Commissioner Justin Bennett, and Valencia County Commissioner Jhonathan Aragon. These individuals were elected for a two-year term by their peer elected officials as ideal candidates to represent their county on the Board. This honor is truly a significant milestone for any county elected official and is based upon their hard work, local government involvement, and ability to address the critical issues important to New Mexico communities. "The new board members have been elected by their peers to represent their county at NMAC," said Steve Kopelman, Executive Director. "The members have the confidence of their fellow elected officials to represent their county on the NMAC Board of Directors to move New Mexico forward."

Founded in 1936 and incorporated in 1968, NMAC is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization governed by New Mexico county elected officials and employees. Its mission is to strengthen New Mexico counties' ability to govern their own affairs and to improve the well-being and quality of life of their constituents. It provides counties with legislative representation, research, training, and assistance in improving the administration and financing of county government.
