Baking Competition Show, with New Mexico’s Brittany Church, Set to Premiere This Week

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, – (JULY 22, 2019) – Albuquerque native and local baker, Brittany Church, will appear on the upcoming season of Netflix’s popular baking competition show, Sugar Rush, which premieres July 26.

Time is of the essence on this cooking show that features teams racing against the clock to bake the best-tasting sweets. Four teams of bakers showcase their kitchen skills in each episode as they whip up cakes and other confections with the hope of leaving with the $10,000 grand prize. The series will return to Netflix with six new episodes on Friday, July 26. The second season of “Sugar Rush” brings back host Hunter March with world-class pastry chefs Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo judging the competition bakers. Guest judges include Paris Berelc, Jackie Sorkin, Carla Hall, Nick and Vanessa Lachey, Jacques Torres and Irene Choi, as the time-constrained baking teams incorporate themes like Science, Trending, Family, and Love into their baking creations.

Long time baker and brand-new mother, Church, entered the contest online but was shocked when she was selected to compete in her second trimester of pregnancy.

“I was floored when the producer contacted me to let me know that I had been selected to compete in the second episode of season two,” explained Brittany Church, owner, Bizzy B Cakes.  ”I have been baking since I was twelve, so I was so excited to compete.”

At 22weeks pregnant, Church flew with her assistant to Los Angeles to record the episode. Church competed against three other teams in several rounds making cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods.

Church grew up in Albuquerque and had always dreamed of making wedding cakes full time but started out as a nanny to raise funds to start a bakery. After several years of saving, Church was finally able to open her dream sweet shop in 2016, Bizzy B Cakes (http://www.bizzybcakes.com) on Eubank. Church specializes in custom birthday cakes and wedding cakes. She runs a company of 5 people and has been very happy with the growth of her business.

“Starting my bakery was my real dream but getting to compete on such a popular baking show was literally, icing on the cake,” Church added.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Sugar Rush premieres this Friday, July 26. Church appears on episode two.
