Local facilities to foster future healthcare professionals

Every year McMillan and the Institute’s dedicated staff open their doors to the local students in the Dream Makers Health Careers Program and Teen Academy for Health Sciences, sponsored by the Frontier and Rural Workforce Development New Mexico Area Health Education Center (FNM AHEC). The high school and junior high students from various local schools get personalized tours of the facility.
“We want to open the students’ eyes that there are many options and opportunities for a career in health care.” said McMillian. “They can be the next generation of health care providers in our community.”

Xavier Khera graduates Cum Laude from Berea College

BEREA, KY (01/04/2024)-- Xavier Khera of Silver City, NM received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Berea College conferred on December 20, 2023.
Berea College recognized 77 students on Sunday, December 10 during its Mid-Year Recognition Ceremony. Berea alum Dr. Betty Hyatt Olinger addressed the students, who represented 21 states and 3 different countries.

SILVER CITY, NM, January 4, 2024 – The Gila National Forest is continuing to implement a number of prescribed fires in the coming weeks as desired weather and fire conditions permit.
“The primary purpose of these activities is to reduce hazardous fuels near community values at risk,” said Gila National Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. “The national Wildfire Crisis Strategy demands a dramatic increase in the pace, scale, and quality of forest treatments and prescribed fire in order to protect communities, infrastructure, and watersheds from catastrophic wildfire.”
