Senator Craig Brandt Issues Statement Following Advancement of Racketeering Bill

SANTA FE—Today, Senate Bill 102 advanced through the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support. The bill aims to strengthen the state’s racketeering law to give prosecutors an additional tool to go after modern criminal organizations.  

Senate Republican Whip, Senator Craig Brandt (R-Rio Rancho), the bill’s sponsor, issued the following statement regarding the bill:

“After having conversations with top prosecutors and law enforcement, one thing is clear—it is career criminals who underpin the criminal enterprise fueling our state’s crime crisis. This bill is a key tool in the toolbelt of prosecutors, allowing them to attack and prosecute modern criminal organizations at every link in the chain. I’m thankful to the committee for their endorsement of this essential crimefighting legislation.”

House Republican Leadership requests public discussion on study

Senator Pat Woods and Senator Steven McCutcheon Introduce Legislation to Restrict Land Acquisition by the Executive

SANTA FE—This week, Senator Pat Woods (R-Broadview) and Senator Steven McCutcheon II (R-Carlsbad) introduced legislation to restrict the New Mexico Game and Fish Department and the New Mexico Energy and Natural Resources Department from acquiring land for the purpose of “preservation.” In 2021, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced her intention to use her administration to acquire 30% of all land types by the year 2030 as part of her radical climate change agenda.

NM HOUSE REPUBLICANS WANT CHECKS AND BALANCES, CALL ON DEMOCRATS TO UPHOLD OATH TO PROTECT CONSTITUTION

SANTA FE, NM—Today, New Mexico House Republicans held a press conference to explain their Joint Resolution that would create a Constitutional Amendment aimed to reign in executive emergency powers. If passed, an emergency order issued by the Governor would terminate after 90 days unless the Governor calls the Legislature back into special session to address the circumstances of the emergency, requiring a 3/5ths vote of the Legislature to extend, restrict, or suspend the emergency. Without action by the Legislature, an emergency order would expire after 90 days.

Clean Car Tax Credit passes first committee

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s proposal for a new tax credit to help New Mexicans purchase zero-emission cars and light trucks cleared its first committee today. 

The House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee voted 6-3 to recommend passage of House Bill 140.  

The bill would create new temporary income tax credits for electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and other zero-emission vehicles. The bill also proposes tax credits for home and commercial electric vehicle chargers. 

The bill is sponsored by Reps. Dayan Hochman-Vigil and Yanira Gurrola and Sen. Bill Tallman.
