Give Grandly Gila/Mimbres Community Radio (KURU 89.1 FM)

KURU GGCandice Burke, host of Community Spotlight and a member of the Board of Directors of GMCR, interviews Ted Tufares of LGBTQ Grant County at Give Grandly 2023, while Station Manager Marcus Hanson oversees the booth and remote broadcast system.On the day of Give Grandly, May 4, 2024, live interviews with representatives of the more than 60 participating organizations will be aired all day by Gila/Mimbres Community Radio (GMCR.org) and KURU 89.1 FM. Throughout the day, live KURU DJs will curate music at the event at Main Street Plaza in Silver City, at Seventh and North Bullard Streets.

“We invite everyone to stop by the GMCR/KURU booth at the Give Grandly in-person event 9-2 on Saturday, May 4,” said Marcus Hanson, Station Manager. “Meet our DJs and Program Hosts, Board members, and volunteers.

Whether you’re on the scene at Main Street Plaza, listening to the radio on 89.1 FM, or streaming at GMCR.org on the Internet, you can get acquainted with organizations that provide vital services and advocacy to Grant County, to help inform your decisions for giving. If you’re at the event, you can watch us in action. You’ll see how our remote broadcasts bring community events right to your home, workplace, or vehicle, as they happen.”

Give Grandly Southwest Regional Museum of Art

ColoringBookThe Southwest Regional Museum of Art and Art Center will be participating in Give Grandly this year. We hope everyone will stop by our booth on Saturday May 4 between 9am and 2pm. Fifty free coloring books designed by Board Members will be given away.

Friends of the Library Book Sale May 11, 2024

The Silver City Friends of the Library (FOL) is holding its May Book Sale on Saturday, May 11, at the FOL Bookstore, 1510 Market Street, from 10:00am-2:00pm.

Hardback and trade paperback books are priced at $1.00 each and paperbacks at $0.50 each. In some cases, books may be priced higher. Weather permitting, clearance item sales take place in the FOL parking lot where visitors can purchase a bag of books (special bags are provided in the parking lot) at $2.00 per bag. There is no limit on the number of bags a visitor can buy.

State Sen Siah Correa Hemphill to speak to Rotary on May 14, 2024

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Sen. Siah Correa Hemphill will speak to Rotary about the recent legislative session.

In a temporary change of venue, the Rotary Club will meet from 12-1 p.m. for lunch in the HMS Conference Room at 1007 N. Pope Street.

There is a brief “meet and greet”, a short business meeting and then the speaker has the floor. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. HMS will provide lunch. A $5 donation to HMS is suggested.

Owner Diana Ingalls Leyba is a talented artist and active participant in the Silver City art scene, including the Youth Mural Program. Diana Ingalls Leyba Studio & Gallery is home to local and regional printmakers, painters, clay and sculpture artists.
