Sylvia Y. Acosta, chief executive officer of the New Mexico State University Foundation, is one of 45 distinguished fellows named to the sixth cohort of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo.
The program enhances diverse representation in executive and senior-level roles in higher education. Over the next year, Acosta will participate in an array of activities that hone leadership skills specific to institutions of higher learning, with an emphasis on Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
New Mexico State University's Disability Access Services has teamed up with Aira, an on-demand remote visual interpretation service for the blind and low-vision community, and T-Mobile Accessibility, to offer more accessibility through a free app now available and active at all NMSU campuses across the state.
The Aira app, which can be downloaded through the Apple App Store or Google Play, outlines the geo-fenced zones where users can access Aira at no cost. It will allow users on all campuses to access live visual interpreting services to help students and visitors more safely navigate the grounds and buildings of NMSU's main Las Cruces campus, as well as its Doña Ana Community College campuses, NMSU Alamogordo and NMSU Grants.
Portales, NM – September 25, 2024- ENMU's Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking is proud to present a theatre performance of "The Thanksgiving Play," a satirical comedy written by Larissa FastHorse.
The play centers around a group of four well-meaning but culturally insensitive white theater artists who attempt to create a politically correct elementary school play about the first Thanksgiving while struggling with their own biases and the lack of Native representation.
La Sociedad para Las Artes at New Mexico State University will host a public reading event for author Deborah Jackson Taffa and MFA candidate Rodrigo as part of the Nelson-Boswell Reading Series, which invites visiting writers to NMSU to share their work with the community.
Deborah Jackson Taffa is the director of the MFA Creative Writing program at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, and a citizen of the Quechan (Yuma) Nation and Laguna Pueblo. She will read from her book "Whiskey Tender," which has been longlisted for the 2024 National Book Award.
Rodrigo Hernandez, NMSU MFA student, will read from his developing thesis prior to Taffa's reading.
The number of scientists from New Mexico State University named to an elite list continues to grow.
This year, 41 NMSU researchers have been named to a list of the top 2 percent of scientists worldwide. The list is regularly updated by Stanford University and Elsevier, a publishing company that specializes in scientific, technical and medical content. Last year, 40 NMSU researchers were named to the list, and 25 researchers were named in 2022.
"The 41 NMSU researchers featured on this year's Stanford University and Elsevier list, along with many other rising stars, will help facilitate our transition to Carnegie R1 designation next year," said Luis Cifuentes, NMSU vice president of research, creativity and economic development.
Portales, NM – September 24, 2024 – Eastern New Mexico University announced today that they would hold their grand opening for the newly renovated Roosevelt Science Center (RSC) on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
Roosevelt Science Center underwent a $22.5 million renovation starting in 2022. This renovation, funded mostly by New Mexico voters through the 2018 and 2020 passing of the General Obligation Bond, helped to create new state-of-the-art science labs, modern technology, and equipment, improving the overall quality of research and hands-on learning for students at ENMU.

The University Art Museum at New Mexico State University is hosting three new exhibitions beginning Friday, Sept. 27. Portales, NM – September 23, 2024 – Eastern New Mexico University was the proud recipient of two original oil paintings from renowned New Mexico painter Ed Sandoval on Tuesday, September 17. The gift included two original paintings titled "Pueblo Firelight" and "Ranchos Rain."
The two paintings include his character "El Viejito, " meaning "the little old man" in Spanish. "El Viejito" is a recurring character in Sandoval's paintings that reflects his love for New Mexico.
