Hidden Springs unit of Collins Park project to be burned between late April and early May
SILVER CITY, NM, April 16, 2024 – The Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District is preparing to implement a prescribed fire in the 1,196-acre Hidden Springs unit of the Collins Park prescribed fire project in late April or early May. The Hidden Springs unit is located approximately 5 miles east-southeast of the Eagle Peak Lookout, on the west side of Forest Road 94 (Cox Canyon Road) and framed by Cox Canyon to the west and North Fork Negrito Creek to the south.

SILVER CITY, NM, April 15, 2024 – Residents of the Town of Mogollon are gearing up for their May 25 event at the historic Mogollon Cemetery to celebrate 100 years of the Gila Wilderness. With event size limited to no more than 70 people, it’s time to secure your RSVP, if you plan to attend.
“Due to the small size, limited parking, and sensitive nature of the cemetery, attendance at this event will be limited to no more than 70 people,” said event organizer, Cordelia Rose. “If you have expressed interest in attending, but have not yet reserved your space, it’s time to RSVP now.”

Silver City Ranger District to implement an area closure for public safety
SILVER CITY, NM, April 15, 2024 – The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District is implementing an area closure while it conducts the 2,010-acre Cameron Creek Prescribed Fire project. Area closure went into effect April 12 and will remain in effect until the area is safe for public re-entry, likely several days. Phase 1 of the Cameron Creek Prescribed Fire will be carried out this week as resource availability and conditions allow.
